Where does DataAlways back up my data?

Files are backed up, compressed, encrypted and then stored temporarily in a protected cache area on your hard drive. At the same time, when your computer is connected to the Internet, the cache is sent to our remote servers and emptied.

What files are backed up?

In a word, everything. This is a DataAlways exclusive. It backs up any number of files of any size with unlimited back-up storage capacity, all for one low monthly subscription price. Backed up files include your Windows operating system, registry, settings, favorites, all your program files, all user files such as documents, images, movies, music, spreadsheets—the works. No limits, no worries.

How long does it take to have my data synchronized with DataAlways?

As the back-up files are uploaded to our servers, the cache is emptied. This is called synchronizing. When you first start DataAlways, it takes several hours or days to back-up your entire system, depending on the amount of data and the speed or availability of your Internet connection. Once the initial back-up is completed, subsequent synchronizations of changed files happen much faster since DataAlways only backs up files that change.

What happens when my disk drive crashes?

Just call the DataAlways customer service center and we will rush you a complete system disaster recovery kit with your most recent back-up on CD or DVD discs. This set of recovery discs is a complete mirror of your system. You may use them to quickly re-install your entire system to you existing hard drive after it has been reformatted or to a new hard drive as long as it is installed in the same computer that was backed up. Each computer has a unique motherboard registry identification that is used by DataAlways as a security measure to assure that your data cannot be recovered to any computer other than your original subscribed system.

Can I selectively restore files using disaster recovery discs?

No. You may only restore a complete system using the disaster recovery system discs. Individual files or groups of files must be recovered via the Recovery Assistant using high-speed Internet download system. This is a feature of our security system that prevents anyone other than you from ever seeing your files. DataAlways technicians cannot see your files and have no way of knowing which files to selectively burn onto a recovery disc.

Does DataAlways work with an external drive?

No. DataAlways will only back-up "local" hard drives that are physically installed in your computer’s chassis. DataAlways will back-up multiple drive partitions and multiple physical drives in the same desktop or workstation chassis including RAID0 and RAID1 arrays.
